Cultural Protection Review of an Educational Instituation

Trident Manor conducts a Threat, Risk and Vulnerability assessment of an educational institution in the UK.
At the beginning of October 2023, Trident Manor conducted a security assessment at a museum belonging to an educational institution in the North of England. The purpose of the visit was to identify threats, risks and vulnerabilities faced by the site.
The institution has collected artefacts and artwork from donors over hundreds of years, and these assets are displayed across the college, museum and libraries for students and visitors to enjoy. The exposure of historical artefacts across the estate enhances the students’ experience, however it also puts these artefacts at greater risk.
During the assessment, various security measures already in place were observed, suggesting that there is an understanding of risk management within the museum and archives team. The importance of cataloguing and maintaining historic artefacts and artwork in suitable storage conditions was discussed, and Trident Manor was able to recommend further physical, technical and operational protective measures which would improve the care and longevity of the institution's historical assets.
Hannah Miller, who attended this visit as part of her Security Consultant training, said: “As part of my ongoing development, it was interesting to see first-hand how security in-depth can optimise risk management while also making culture safely accessible to others. Any physical, technical, operational or educational protective measure on its own can be enhanced by the implementation of more layers, and this is often more achievable and cost-effective than it seems.”
