Providing security risk management support during development projects should not end when the building starts. It is vital that re-evaluations take place throughout the project to ensure the risk strategies remain appropriate for the threats that exist.

Trident Manor has been providing security risk management support to a new science museum project in Saudi Arabia since 2023. As well as undertaking a review of the initial security risk assessment that others had completed, we advised the client on sensible approaches to be adopted regarding the physical and technical security applications.

However, once the building work starts, that does not mean there is no further part to play regarding ongoing security risk management. When you are working on major development projects, they take years to come to fruition, the threats and risks they pose do not remain static, and therefore, there is a need to continually re-evaluate to ensure that what was proposed remains appropriate and suitable for future use.

Our Managing Director, Andy Davis, recently visited Riyadh to engage with the client and to revisit the site that is under construction. He said, “It is important that the security risk assessment process continues throughout the development stages of projects to reaffirm that the original advice remained valid but also to assess whether the development had introduced any changes in the risk profile, either increasing or decreasing it.”

“During this visit I was able to identify areas where the physical security measures could be reduced due to the landscaping designs that had taken place and the greater use of natural materials which reduced the need for security products that did not support the aesthetic nature of the venue or the client’s desire for a welcoming experience.”

During this visit, Andy was able to work with the project team and review some of the previous recommendations that had been made by others and introduce significant financial savings without reducing the levels of protection that have been afforded.
